On the March 7 radio broadcast of The Neal Boortz Show, what began as a story about ice falling from a plane onto a rural Georgia tire shop quickly snowballed into one professor's campaign to suspend the "Talkmaster." During the broadcast, Boortz repeatedly aired clips of Jordan Welch, a Lula youth, describing the falling ice.

Americans have recognized black history annually since 1926. It was first "Negro History Month" then later named "Black History Month" in 1976. Black history had barely begun to be studied or documented when the tradition originated. Although blacks have been in America at least as far back as colonial times, it was not until the 20th century that they gained a respectable presence in the history books.
